We have a lot going on in class these days! We continued with our rodeo theme today by making bandanas.

We are also beginning our units on basic concepts.  We have been touching on these already this year through art activities and individual work with Miss Julie but now we are beginning more focused, whole-group activities.  In the morning we are working on "big" and "small." We have been sorting big and small bears and horses.  On Tuesday we will be watching this video and then we will start making our own fun video.
We made a BIG tower!

In the afternoon we are working on "behind" and have already started on our video. We also read a book today called "Chicken Licken" where lots of animals were found behind gates, bushes, bales of hay, etc. Why do we teach basic concepts? Here is a handy, dandy handout that explains why.

We also did some painting with water colors and played with the beans in the sensory table.

Snack today was strawberries and animal crackers.

Giddyup, pardner!
We continued our rodeo theme today in the classroom.  We have pinto beans in the sensory table for the kids to explore and we made a vest to go with the boot we laced last week.

During circle time in the morning we listened to a story about a little blue truck and a big yellow dump truck and then we sorted big and little bears. After that we practiced jumping over a candle.

In the afternoon we played a game where we matched letters of the alphabet on bean bags to letters found on our ABC rug. Then we had a little free time to play.

Snack today was strawberries and Nilla Wafers.

Today we finished our Valentine's Day activities and started discussing concepts related to the rodeo. We played Valentine Land one more time and the morning class listened to a Valentine's Day story. We took turns lifting the flaps to see who sent the valentines.

Then it was time to talk about the rodeo.  Miss Diane put out horses, hats, boots, and vests in the free play area.

During center time we laced a boot and then stamped a design on it. We also got to play in shaving cream today. We practiced drawing faces, shapes, and writing our names.

Snack today was pretzels and apples.
